THE TRAIL from Refuge Prati to Refuge Capannelle
From Refuge Prati it starts a long and smooth descent throught nice woods and forests. This side of the mountain is much more greener than the other one. After some kilometers you reach the D69 road and the Col de Verde gite, a comfortable accommodation with a good restaurant where you can fill up with water and have some refreshment. Now the trail starts to gain some height again even if this ascent is not very demanding. After few kilometers of woods the trail become relatively plain and easy. It flanks the lower side of Monte Renoso. Continue your relatively simple walk for some hours then a last climb and a small descent that will take you to Refuge de Capanelle. Here there's a good restaurant, tents, showers and all the services.

THE GR20
The GR20 is a legendary hiking trail that winds its way through the rugged heart of Corsica.. It's famed as one of Europe's toughest and most breathtaking trekking routes, stretching around 180 kilometers (about 112 miles) along the island's north-south axis, cutting through the stunning Regional Natural Park of Corsica.
The trail is divided into two distinct sections. The northern part is notorious for its challenging terrain, featuring rocky climbs and technical passages that test even the most seasoned hikers. Though shorter in distance, it's considered the harder part of the GR20. In contrast, the southern section is less technical but still demands respect with its tough trails and more open landscapes, offering a different kind of beauty and challenge.
Hiking the entire GR20 typically takes about 15 to 16 days. Along the way, hikers can find refuge in several huts managed by the Regional Natural Park of Corsica. These refuges provide essential services and a place to rest, while designated camping areas offer an alternative for those who prefer to carry their own tents.
The trail can be accessed from either Calenzana in the north or Conca in the south, both reachable by bus from Corsica's main towns. The best time to tackle the GR20 is from June to September when the weather is most favorable. Even in summer, hikers must be prepared for unpredictable conditions, including rain, fog, and storms.

TIPS
It is important to be technically equipped with adeguate shoes and clothing suitable for the climatic conditions. Do not begin hiking if the weather forecast is unfavorable. It's not worth the risk. Rushing can lead to dangerous decisions. Thunderstorms on the ridges are perilous, making rocks slippery and causing low visibility. Deaths have occurred from lightning strikes and certain areas are prone to deadly avalanches.

GOOD PRACTICES:
When hiking trails in forests and protected areas, it's essential to follow principles of environmental stewardship. Respect wildlife by observing from a distance, stay on designated trails to avoid damaging vegetation, and carry out any trash you bring in. Minimize noise to preserve the natural tranquility and refrain from disturbing habitats. Leave no trace to ensure the preservation of these natural spaces for future generations.
