On his first attempt, without a GPS device, accompanied only by an indigenous guide where required in tribal territory, Evan Brashier completed El Camino de Costa Rica: the first known foreigner to do so. He then wrote a guide book about the trail so that others could accomplish the same. As a Peace Corps Volunteer, he taught English at a school in a Moldovan village, and lived with a local family for two years. Now he speaks Romanian with a Russian accent, and Spanish with a Romanian accent. As an infantry officer in the Marine Corps, he deployed to the Sangin Valley of Helmand Province in Afghanistan. Twice. This was the only time he ever changed his permanent address. In the courtroom, after representing himself as the defendant, judges have apologized to him for the inconvenience, and thanked him for his time. He appeared in theater productions at his high school two years before he started high school. He studied emergency medicine, disaster relief, and humanitarian assistance, and has successfully started more than one IV… on himself. He has trained in jungle survival, mountain survival, desert survival, cold weather survival, underwater survival, and jumping-out-of-airplanes survival. He also trained in, and received a scholarship for, performing classical ballet. He conducted Combined Joint military training with soldiers from New Zealand, in the Republic of Korea. Like a wise man, he once hiked up Mount Fuji in Japan. Like a fool, he did it twice. He coordinated the summer tour for a cover band in Eastern Europe, and joined them as the lead singer. He facilitated the evacuation of an entire military base prior to a hurricane, every year for four consecutive years. His solo adaptation of Hamlet into a hip-hop homage has received standing ovations from international audiences. He walked the original Mohave Trail trade route through the Mojave Desert in California, in the summer, alone. He starred in an installation art piece staged at numerous city crosswalks to highlight the importance of pedestrian safety, costumed as a traffic cone, dressed in an orange unitard. He holds a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington, a Bachelor’s in Drama from the University of California, Irvine, and a black belt in the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program.
