A great walk from the campsite that circles Hardwick Hall. The first mile along the road needs a bit of care as there is no footpath, when we did the walk it was muddy and hard going, it would be better in summer. The whole walk is interesting with great scenery. towards the end we had to climb through a barbwire fence, you may want to continue down the disused train track rather than climbing up onto the bridge and across the field.

"Thatcher Out" we are in an old mining village, in the 80's Margaret Thatcher the prime minister fought to close the non profitable mining pits. These were the life and soul of the communities and she was extremely unpopular for this.

Down onto cycle track

Stay on here all the way back to avoid the barbed wire fence

Barbed Wire

Its only a short walk across a field from the cycle track to this point which is shown on the map as a track, unfortunately it does not join to the footpath, this bit of barbed wire stands in the way, it was easy to get through in February, not sure it would be in summer when then bushes have grown.

At the summit, fantastic views and a great statue of a miner. A must to see
