Loop taking in chalky North Downs Way and sandy St Marthas Hill. Arranged to get the downhill bits in the first half, to be kind to dodgy knees, but descent to Tillingbourne still a little uncomfortable (although very much worth it, the beech wood is really beautiful). Steep ascent back to the North Downs Way is rewarded by the excellent Plucky Pheasant Cafe at the finish. If it's preferred to start with that ascent, park at the (free) car park at Silent Pool, where there is a shop and bar (they make their own gin and 'champagne').
