vicino a Siglufjörður, Norðurland Eystra (Ísland)
This hike starts at the bottom of Siglufjörður. We follow the eastern shoreline to the lighthouse in Selvík. The path to the lighthouse passes the ruins of the Evanger herring factory that was destroyed in an avalanche 1919. The path is partly trough moorland and was particularly wet now after the heavy rainfalls in the last weeks. North of the lighthouse the so called "skriður" (rock slides) begin. There are several ravines to cross with steep slides between. The path is partly marked with iron bars, but it is relatively far between the bars so a gps track is recommended. In some of the more difficult ravines, there are chains to hold onto. The stretch between the lighthouse and the tip of the Siglunes peninsula is only for experienced vertigo free hikers. We put up our tent at Reyðará-river/farm and continued the day after. The Nesdalur valley is deep but without any difficulties. In the bottom of the valley the path is (poorly) marked up to the Kálfsdalur mountain pass. From the pass the slope down Kálfsdalur valley is clearly visible down to the lighthouse again.
