Some of the available routes go directly over the Cuckmere River. It might be possible to cross the river at low tide barefoot with trousers rolled up, otherwise you will be forced inland (as we were, at high tide) which adds an extra 50 minutes to the walk. This section heading inland toward Cuckmere Inn was exceptionally slippery and difficult going even in hiking boots, after heavy rainfall the night before - a walking pole would have helped.
