Rumija is a classic hike in one of the three most characteristic mountains along the Montenegro coast (the other two being Lovćen and Orjen). There are two basic options to summit Rumija, either from the Skadar lake (northern approach) or from Dobri do (southern approach, easier), which we did.
Access by car to Dobri do is a bit tricky, so studying it beforehand and using maps is advisable. As of mid-January 2023, a previously unpaved section of the road was mostly paved, with less than 1km being left to be paved in the near future. Keep in mind that the unpaved section is not next to the starting point of the trail, but several kilometers before. So you drive on asphalt, then on macadam and then again on asphalt to reach the starting point.
The trail is well marked and the path is clearly visible all the time. Our instruments measured about 620m of total elevation gain and some 4.1km of total length.
The summit is one of the greatest viewpoints in Montenegro, offering unobstructed views over the Skadar lake, Podgorica, peaks of some of the most important mountains in Montenegro (Lovćen, Žijevo, Komovi, Durmitor), as well as over Albanian Prokletije.
