Pınarbaşı and ancient Phellos

The starting point of this trail is at just a few kilometres from the main road Demre - Kaş. We park our car close to the Ortakuyu mosque. There is space for a couple of cars here. We start taking the small dirt road beside the mosque and follow the indications Likya yolu / 2 Phellos. Until Phellos there is a walking route indicated with white/red marks. In this first section we will walk a bit steep uphill and we usually walk on fairly narrow paths that are however easy to find. There are quite some stones and there are sometimes shrubs with spines (Phellos is a greek word for stoney area). So it is advised to wear long trousers and sturdy shoes. Doing so the going will not be difficult.
After 1,8 km, just before Phellos the indicated track will continue to the right. We will continue keeping left towards Phellos (So ignore the X indication). Shortly after we will reach Phellos.
The ancient city of Phellos is located on a hill of 550 meters long and 200 wide. There are no definite historical details about the origin of the settlement but it is thought that Phellos was a military settlement that controlled the surrounding region. In this context Antiphellos (Kaş) was the port of this settlement. The wealth of the city is thought to have derived from income obtained from cedar forests. The location of the settlement of Phellos is much richer in water sources than other Lycian cities. The walls surrounding the acropolis are processed by polygonal technique. The east and southeast towers adjacent to the city walls were processed with rectogonal technique. All blocks are made of limestone, which is the natural formation of the region.
The walls and towers surrounding the ruins can be observed especially in the northern part. The settlement is surrounded by necropolis. The tombs are scattered on the southern and eastern sides. At the western end, there is Heroon (A monument dedicated to heroes and kings). In the middle of the hill we find the remains of many buildings and there is a small theatre adjacent to the southwest of the central agora (An agora is a market or meeting area in Hellenic cities).
Following my trail and the waypoints you will pass the wall, tombs and a cisterna.
After Phellos we follow a ridge for a while. The trail is signalled with white/red marks. We pass through areas of forest with generally low shrubs and sometimes have beautiful views. This is a very beautiful piece of nature.
After about 4,5 km we reach a bigger dirt road. From now on the going is very easy. We come through a forest environment and sometimes have beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. The road gets better and better and after about 9,5 km we reach an asphalt road where we continue in descent to Pinarbaşi. Here we will find a picnic area and drinking water. It seems there is also a restaurant: HALİL İBRAHİM FİDANLI. I did not check this out.
From here we walk easily back to where we left our car.

The route is designed in a clockwise direction.
Time spent: total = 7 hours and 44 minutes of which moving = 2 hours and 55 minutes
There are picnic tables after 10,5 kilometres
There is drinking water after 10,5 kilometres.
The track is rather easy from a technical point of view.
