Descrizione dell'itinerario
Why worthwhile? Very nice view - looking down on the village Brand, a 1000m. below.
Starting point: Bus stop Gletscherbachbrücke / Untere Sonnenlagant Alpe 1326m. (small parkingspace). [Brandnertal - Brand 1037m.]
Time: 5 hours
Details: reasonably well marked. First good paths, then pretty steep climb to the summit. After rain very slippery. Make sure you bring along enough water to drink (there are no mountain huts on your way).
Route description:
The starting point can easily be overlooked, so watch out: from the village Brand we drive towards Lünersee (cable railway Lünerseebahn). After a few minutes we arrive at a point where the road bends to the left, upwards. At this point there's a little bridge over the river Alvier. There's also a bus stop (for the people who live at the Sonnenlagent and Schattenlagant alpe, and for people who want to climb Mottakopf). Just before the bridge a sandy mountain road leaves the ongoing road (southwest). Here we can park our car.
We follow this mountain road upwards towards the Untere Sonnenlagant Alpe 1326m. After the first bend, we must watch out for a small path at the left that goes upwards along the slope. This point can be easily overlooked as well. This path leads us to the Obere Sonnenlagant Alpe 1810m. From here, we will see a sign pointing towards the summit of Mottakopf. We go to the right (north) along the slope on a well worn out path towards the summit. Because this is the only 'normal' route, we go back the same way as we came.
Done in 1992 and 1999.

Superbe ascension!
Awesome! Good to see the climb is still worthwhile (it's been 25 years for me!)
Yes! And I m coming this valley since 30 years and the first time climbing Mottakopf! Thanks!
Cool! Mottakopf is always so present in the landscape when you drive into the Brandertal. It's a great summit!
