Descrizione dell'itinerario
This was a leisurely stroll in an area that still had some hidden treasures to discover.
Starting from our usual base at the Zahrat Sannine restaurant you go north towards the main road but branch-off on the dirt road to the right just shy of it. Keep on that path until the intersection where you turn south. Shortly there-after, you branch-off to the right following a dirt path. From that point on the path drawn on the map is approximate as it is from memory. The purpose is to find a way to the Bekish plateau. There is a clear way on to it. Just aim for the house on the corner of where the mountain turns south. There is a rock slide right on the eastern side of that house that you can easily climb to get on the plateau (I'll stick-in some way-points to indicate the said house).
Once on the plateau, head for the giant cross and the church right next to it. Next take the road going west the go off road to the Buddha statue. From there, aim for the geodesic dome-like structures (on and off road). Before you get there you will come across a private resort that has a large oval-shaped swimming pool and a restaurant (I forgot the name of the place). We stopped and had a cup of coffee there, then kept on going towards the geodesic domes which turned-out to be very luxurious bungalows for rent. The nice lady over there gave us a tour. The view from there is very nice as these sit on the western edge of the plateau overlooking the valley below. You can be sitting in bed literally looking down into the valley between your toes. So that was the half-way point of the hike, three hours so far. We then headed towards the main road to make our way back to Sannine. Instead of staying on it though we took the scenic loop which branches off to the south of it (easy to recognize, it has a road sign with the name of about a dozen restaurants). We followed that until the end of the asphalt then went briefly off-road to rejoin the main road which we followed past the ski station then southerly until we hit the high path right below the cedars for the final push towards Zahrat Sannine. This was the most scenic part of the hike. As before, the path shown on the map is approximate since from memory, but for the most there will be a clearly defined path for you to follow. For the cases there isn't one, just follow theses simple guidelines. For the first 80% of the course, stay at a level height as much as you can. Don't go down towards the main road, instead, let the the road rise to you. When the big red-roofed housing complex which is a little before restaurant is at about 45 degrees from your beam, aim straight for it and go down. You will eventually find yourself on the edge of a cliff. Follow the edge and intercept the dirt path that has a small "A-frame" style structure on it but don't follow it when curves down towards the main road, instead keep going south off-road until you get to another dirt road which goes south then bends east at the top of the hill to go towards a small red-roofed house which overlooks the restaurant. At the bend at the top of the hill you'll be able to see the restaurant. Aim straight for it and you're home free.
Total moving time 6 hours 28 minute.
Note: We did this one in spring when the vegetation is green, tall, and dense.
It is a good idea to beat the brush ahead of you with a long stick to scare away any eventual snake. We were lucky not to come across any live ones this time around, but we did see a dead one though.
Have fun.
