Descrizione dell'itinerario
The walk starts in the main port of the island next to the exit from the ferry.
The first hour is a steady climb along a virtually deserted Tarmac road.
However very soon after leaving Lakki you will pass several guard posts hewn into the Rock dating back to when the island was fortified by the Italian in the 1930's and in WW2.
After about 2k you will also pass by the tourist attraction of the War Tunnels which is worth a look. Further on you will come to deserted barrack buildings of the same era.
Soon afterwards on the left of the road is a white marble memorial to collaborators shot in WW2 which I poinment reminder to the island recent history. Whilst not connected to this walk its worth noting that on the road near Alinda on the East of the Island is the British WW2 Cemetary from the battle of Leros in WW2.
As you leave the Tarmac road if you deviate to the left towards on a path towards the headland and entrance to Lakki's main harbour you will find the foundations of naval gun emplacements which are again worth seeing, if your interested.
Once you crest the brow leaving the tarmac behind you to head around the western shores and begin to head north on a vehicle track which winds and climbs back towards the town passing firstly through small farmsteads before reaching the outskirts of Lakki.
Overall this is one of our favourite walks on Leros and not to be missed, the views are stunning from start t finish.
