Descrizione dell'itinerario
Although this walk starts from Congleton Station, a good starting point if travelling by car is the car park at Astbury country park, fee £1 Oct 2019. The route makes use of the towpath of the Macclesfield Canal followed by a disused railway track that ran from Biddulph towards Congleton. There is also a section which almost covers a complete circuit of Astbury Mere, followed by field tracks and lanes on the southern edge of Congleton back to the canal. The remaining section does involve some urban road walking through Congleton but involves two very attractive stretches. Firstly a section where you enter the picturesque Congleton Park climbing into the wooded area on the northern edge before descending close to the bandstand. There are toilets and refreshments close to the formal gardens, also a good stop for a picnic.
After the break there is a section alongside the river Dane, where the paths are safe and fenced. However half way along this section you must cross the busy A54 close to the Mill Street roundabout.
