Descrizione dell'itinerario
Provably the most impresive mountain in the eastern Pyrenees. Called the sacred mountain for the Catalans had been considered wrongly in past, for a long time, the highest mountain of the Pyrenees due to his prominence from down.
Canigó is the first mountain that surpasses the 2K meters when you come from Mediterranean seaside, so the overviews of the seaside are astonishing in a clear day.
We will realise this ascent parking our car a few kms before arriving to the 'Refuge de Cortalets' due to avoid the crowd. The place is called 'Ras de prat cabrera'.
Keep in mind that to get to this place by car, it's very recommendable a mountain car or an elevated vehicle due to the long dirt track (more than 15kms and not always so flat and wide).
Warning! dirt track can be closed in summer season, that's why I recommend it in Autumn or June.
Also, on the way down you should surpass the technical section called 'The Chimney of Canigó'. You do not need any kind of material, only take some care. There are a lot of stones/holds to ensure the steps.
