Cairnsmore of Dee is the least highest of the three Galloway Cairnsmores, however what it lacks in stature it makes up for in character, and this walk is tough going in places with only traces of a foot path. The summit views across the Glenkens are worth the effort and the two wee lochans at the summit add character to any photographs. The strangely named summit of Benniguinea is blighted by a communications mast, but it is included for the terrific view along the length of Clatteringshaws Loch. Public toilets and refreshments are available at the visitor centre.
