Quite a nice and easy hike where you follow the famous „Rennsteig“ for a few kilometers. Which also means that it is quite busy with other hikers. Especially up on the Inselsberg there are busloads of tourists.
If you want to avoid a step descend, take the road at „waypoint 08“, though you will miss a nice viewpoint at the „Reitsteine“.
Restaurants are on the Inselsberg and in the area of „waypoint 09“ (Grenzwiese).
