Descrizione dell'itinerario
A nice, easy hike that can be done by all ages.
You visit the Niha fortress where Mir (prince) Fakhreddine the Second (a Lebanese warlord and chieftain) hid from the Ottomans before his capture and execution early 1600s. The fortress, a collection of rooms carved in the cliff and is supported by water drawn from a nearby spring, has a beautiful view of the Bisri Valley and surrounding villages.
After the fortress, the trail turns into a flat dirt road surrounded by the Tawmat Niha Mountain Chain to the left and the Bisri valley and little scattered villages to the right. The views on both sides are beautiful. The trail is best done one-way because the only loop you could find is going back on the same road.
We did not go all the way to Jezzine (4 km shorts due to time constraints).
