Descrizione dell'itinerario

A beautiful trail to be done at least 4 times a year. It is a Rock formation trail with Jabal Moussa accompanying you in the background.
The trail started from Hayata Cross at 1100 ASL (gate is always closed - need to go around it).
The trail starts with an uphill (a bit if challenge for newbies) taking you up to 1400 ASL in ~3km. then levels off and downhill after that until the ~11 km mark where you end up with another but short uphill and then a downhill stretch to reach the cars.
This trail is a joy for those who "have a thing" for rocks; millions of year-old rocks chiselled by snow, ice, and sun to create scenes that is a joy to the eye.
The weather was a pleasant one with temperature in the early 20s (unusual for this time of the year).

Note. There is an army post on the way; be careful not to take any pictures around that area.

Abandoned House

This trail has many abandoned old houses standing as a testament to the way the natives built their house not too long ago. Most houses in this area, I am told, were abandoned in the late 1910s due to hunger (1000s perished as well) as a result from locusts and naval blockade by England and its allies against the Ottoman Empire. As usual the casualties are the ordinary citizens.

This is the cellar of Father Hanna (John) Azar. His family owned this hill; they built the cellar as a summer retreat during the harvest season.

Shepherd Summer Barn

Summer outdoor barns are a mainstay for Lebanese shepherds; they take their herd grazing in the highlands and they stay with them instead of bringing them home daily.

Outdoor Church

Mount Lebanon Kesrwan and Matn region are rife with these outdoor churches. Usually, they are found on top of hills or next to natural caves. This one seems fairly new; the chiselled alter gives the impression it was completed yesterday.

Rock II

This huge rock has many caves-turned-cellars. My guess, it's still used by shepherds during the summer season.

Loyal Dog

The dog of this family refused to stop being aggressive against us despite the families pleading (good thing he was away and attended to by the man of the house).
