Descrizione dell'itinerario
The Shakunage trail (Rhododendron) runs parallel to the jigokudani one in Northern Kobe. It is not a frequented trail and there was no other human being today. There are many such trails in Kobe, not mentioned in the mountain guide books and so ignored by most hikers. This has many advantages: you don't have to say こんにちは 1,000 times, there are almost no stairs, chances to encounter snakes or other animals are higher etc. On the other hand nature reclaims the path step by step, this time there was an amazing number of spiderwebs at face level on the whole way up. Never before had I thought spiders would slow me down on a hike. Likewise I was surprised by the number of frogs, especially baby frogs which are barely bigger than flies, dozens upon dozens of them jumping their way out of mine.
The trial itself is tricky at parts on the river trail with several ropes and moss-covered slippery rocks.
Overall I prefer the jigokudani trail
