From the historical centre of Perugia we will transfer you to Monte Malbe where you will start your Hike! The starting point is the Convent of the Capuccini in Monte Malbe.
When on the top of this hill close to the convent, cross the large dirt parking area keeping right and turn left at the end of it to take the path that leads into a forest of tall chestnuts and hornbeam. Do not follow the convent’s peripheral wall but keep to your right in the woods and at the next fork keep to the left to return towards the convent’s wall. Turn right to get to the Villa di Monte Malbe and continue straight on the right. Follow the wide main road towards the Trinità. Along this road you’ll see lovely views of Perugia on the left and Monte Tezio on the right. When you get to Le Trosce, an old farmhouse, take the trail on the right with the red/white CAI markings. At the next fork stay left and go down and then up again along the same trail. At the fork stay right and continue straight towards the Hermitage of San Salvatore (the Romitorio). At the juncture of 4 trails take the one towards the right with the CAI markings that goes into the woods. Keep right at the next fork (with views over the Caina Valley and the hills between Corciano and Magione). Continue on the left keeping the entrance to the Romitorio on your right. Here a long descent begins, stay on the main CAI marked path. After the first steep and stony descent leave the CAI path and continue straight. When you get to a small cement building turn left onto a trail and at the next fork stay left. At the following fork stay right as you descend towards Migiana. During this last stretch please pay close attention to the forks as you are in the woods and there are no clear points of reference.
When you reach the paved road that goes to the village, keep to your left until you reach stop lights, and go straight in the direction of Castello di Pieve del Vescovo. Take the paved road to the right, it goes downwards along the woods to return to the street that connects to the Provincial road. The traffic on this stretch of road is rather heavy, please be careful as there are no trail markings. Cross over to the other side of the Provincial road and get onto a gravel/dirt road on the other side that leads to a knitware factory (maglificio) and a group of houses. Cross over the Caina gulley after which you’ll reach some rural buildings where you will turn left. Follow the valley keeping a hill with olive groves to your right. Stay on it and then keep right at the fork until you reach the paved road that goes to Antria, where you turn left through vineyards until you get to a winery. From the winery take the dirt road that overlooks a pond and then turn left onto a path that rises steeply into the woods until you get to the top of the hill in front of Antria. We suggest you take some time to see the little village and then continue along downwards towards the left. At the fork turn right along the paved road that then becomes the dirt road that leads to Caligiana. The road goes to a small cemetery, and from there take a sharp, almost U-turn, left and follow the M11 trail markings. You will follow a crest road with a slight climb to the top of Monte Bitorno. Continue straight on to begin the descent into the olive grove facing Magione and, in the distance to the left, Lake Trasimeno. Stay on your right and pass an abandoned farmhouse and buildings, towards La Goga.
The road descends, keep left towards another farmhouse and then straight until you reach the wide road on the plain that connects to the paved road that goes from Magione to Caligiana.
Stay left towards Magione until you reach the paved road between Magione and Castel Rigone. Take right and at the 2 pines go straight to a gravel road and turn right to reach the white and pink Agriturismo Villa Rancio on the right.
