Aragats North Peak / Classic route / Armenia

Though Ararat is Armenian Highlands’ highest point, Aragats is the highest mountain in Armenian territory. Aragats has 4 peaks, the most famous are South peak and North peak, first Southern peak is famous for its availability, easiness and the Northern peak for being the highest point of Armenia. The views from all the peaks are similar.

This is a classic trail from Qari lake.
There is also another trail to the North peak from Aragats village.

The length of this trail is 16 km.

::: WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT ARAGATS NORTH PEAK :::

--- You don't need any climbing equipment for North peak
--- You can do it in one day in season, if you are in a good physical state.
--- If you don’t have an acclimatization for 3000 m and above, it's better to climb North peak in 2
days for your health and physical state. (About 2 days' North peak look below).
--- Season for North peak is from the end of June till the beginning of October .
--- The best month for North peak is August.
--- In a crater there are some sources of water, so you shouldn't carry litres of water with you from the beginning.
--- North peak has 2 peaks - false and true , 99.9 precents of people climb the 'false' one and it's considered to be also NORTH peak, there is even no any touristic group to the 'true' one, as its risky (stone falling, dangerous pass without any ropes).

::: WHAT ABOUT SPENDING ONE NIGHT THERE FOR BETTER ACCLIMATIZATION? :::
If you want to climb Aragats in 2 days, there are 2 versions:
1. You set your tents near the lake Qari and stay overnight there, early in the morning you start at the North peak and return to your tent with a light backpack.

2. You start from Lake Qari early in the morning with a heavy backpack, after passing half of the way you set your tent in the crater and spent the night there. Early in the morning you leave your tent, climb the mountain, return back to your tent, take all your belongings and get back to the lake Qari.
